7 Days Desert Tour From Marrakech To Merzouga

Day 1: MARRAKECH – TIZI-N-TEST – TALIOUINE

After breakfast, we’ll set out for Taliouine via the Berber village of Asni, the Ouirgane Valley, the High Atlas, and the Tizi N-Test pass (2260 m in elevation). En route, we’ll stop to take in the stunning scenery, have lunch in a nearby restaurant, and then continue on to Taliouine and explore the village. Afternoon at the hotel.

Day 2: TALIOUINE – TAZNAKHT – FOUM ZGUIT – LAKE IRIKI – ERG CHEGAGA DESERT

Leaving Taliouine in the morning and traveling via Taznakhte to Foum Zguit for lunch. As we approach Chegaga in the late afternoon, you will meet the tent-dwelling nomads and pass an acacia-covered plateau in the desert. Arrive on the Erg Chegaga dunes in the late afternoon. Enjoy dinner outside close to the campfire while being entertained by locals.

DAY 3: ERG CHEGAGA – MHAMID – ZAGORA

After breakfast, we travel to Zagora by way of the communities of Tamagroute and M’hamid El Ghizlane, where we will get the chance to see one of the oldest Quranic libraries in southern Morocco before visiting a pottery business. Afternoon: We continue on to Zagora, passing through Berber settlements and spending the night there.

DAY 4: ZAGORA – TISMMOUMEN – TAFRAOUT DESERT

After breakfast, we will set off on the Paris-Dakar route toward the town of Tafraout, passing through the hamadas, the Tizi n’Tfilalet mountain pass, and the desert plateau. Along with the Kam-Kam Gorges, this route also follows a historic dinosaur track. After many generations, their remnants are still visible inside the Saharan terrain. On this day, we will also get the chance to interact with Tafraout and other nearby Berber tribes. Overnight.

DAY 5: TAFRAOUT DESERT – RAMLIA – OUZINA – KHAMLIA – MERZOUGA DESERT

The excursion will start after breakfast and go through a variety of quite different landscapes. We follow the route via desert settlements, deserted towns, nomad camps, and dry lakes until we arrive at the majestic Ouzina desert, which can only be reached by off-road paths. Just before arriving at Merzouga Dunes, we pay a visit to Khamlia, a very distinctive Gnawa village. At a hotel or camp, we’ll have a meal before retiring to watch the stars.

DAY 6: ERG CHEBBI – RISSANI – ERFOUD – TODRA GORGES – DADES VALLEY

A sunrise over the sand sea is a spectacular reward for getting up early. After breakfast, you ride back to Merzouga on camels, and then we’ll head to Rissani, the entrance to Erg Chebbi’s desert. where there’s a lively Souk with few visitors, where you can witness nomads coming for supplies, and a parking lot of donkeys close to the market. We keep driving to another lovely Berber settlement called Tinghir, which means “mountain city” in Tamazight, where. we will admire the contrast of their palm orchards and flowers. We now approach the stunning Todra gorges, which are created by walls over 300 meters high and a well-known climbing location across the world After that excursion, we go by car to the Dades Valley, a Berber community renowned for its imposing canyons and Atlas Mountain vistas. A beautiful riad or motel for the night.

DAY 7: DADES VALLEY – SKOURA – OUARZAZATE – MARRAKECH

After breakfast, we continue our journey via several valleys, including the Roses Valley and the Skoura palm grove with its secret kasbahs, until we reach Ouarzazate, from which point we will go back to Marrakech via the High Atlas Mountain Road over the Tizi n’Tichka pass.
